ARTIST STATEMENT
Brart, simplified from bra-art, celebrates women. One of the ways to remove patriarchy in our society is to recreate faces that were actively erased by that patriarchal society. Brart is a socially derived artform that requires the participation of community to fuel conversation, while actively repurposing textiles. Any bras I don’t use for art are donated to the Bra Recyclers. Outside of exhibits, I am continually collecting bras through word of mouth and social media posts. In 2023 I diverted 100 pounds of bras from the landfill. There are a variety of technical disciplines that define brart. All bras must be pre-used. I do not change the color of the fabric. I save all scraps in bins to ensure nothing is wasted. Please bring bras to my booth!
